Trauma

What is Trauma?

Trauma is a response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope, causing feelings of helplessness, diminishing their sense of self, and their ability to feel a full range of emotions and experiences. Trauma can result from singular incidents, such as an accident or natural disaster, or from ongoing, relentless stress, such as living in a high-conflict environment or enduring the challenges of a chronic illness.

Treatment Options for Trauma

At Happy Medium Counseling, we recognize the profound impact trauma can have on an individual’s life and offer various therapeutic approaches to aid healing and recovery:

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

Specifically designed to address the complex needs of trauma survivors, TF-CBT helps individuals process and make sense of their traumatic experiences.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

An interactive psychotherapy technique used to relieve psychological stress. It is an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Psychodynamic Therapy

Explores the psychological roots of emotional suffering to help clients understand and resolve their trauma.

Mindfulness Techniques

Used to help individuals stay present in the moment, mindfulness can mitigate the pervasive effects of past trauma and reduce tendencies towards hypervigilance and avoidance.

Group Therapy

Provides a supportive environment where individuals can share their experiences and learn coping strategies from others facing similar challenges.

At Happy Medium Counseling, we are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where clients can explore their feelings and thoughts, work through their trauma, and move towards a path of healing and recovery.
